Rick Mears is a four time winner of Indy and the 1979, 84, 88 & 91 races. His 1984 winning speed was 163.612 mph. driving for Roger Penske in the Pennzoil Z-7 a Penske/March/Cosworth. (This was the only time he won without winning the pole). "Rocket Rick" is the current record-holder for pole positions in the race with six (1979, 1982, 1986, 1988, 1989, 1991). Mears is also a three-time Indycar series/World Series champion (1979, 1981 and 1982).
